The Supernatural : Walking in the Miraculous

The fact that God does miracles is not news to Christians and non-christians alike, it is alluded to in the multiplicity of fake miracle centers around, after all a fake is only a testament to the efficacy of the original. It is confirmed during emergency situations where “Jesus” is spontaneously chorused by otherwise non-believers. Most importantly, the Bible is filled with testimonies of God stepping in to change situations and reverse the natural order for the sake of men. But why don’t we see it in our midst as often as we should?

One reason perhaps, is that we have left the miraculous to Pastors and ministry gifts in general. We somehow disqualify ourselves from having the ability to do the miraculous. “It is not for every Christian you say” yet the Lord Jesus himself said “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.” John 14:12. Please note that the qualification for doing the works and even greater works than Jesus did is to simply believe. In essence, a day-old believer can do the miraculous. On the same point, Jesus said in another scripture that “these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Mark 16:17-18. In case we are unsure of what the works were in the previous verse, Christ expatiated on them here but the qualification remains the same.

The life we have received is not an ordinary life; we are not and should not be limited by the natural. We have received the eternal life of God (1 John5:13) and thus the supernatural is our daily experience. Expect the impossible to become possible for you because you serve a wonder-working God. In John6:16-21, we see Jesus walking on waters but in verses 22 -25, we realized that Jesus walked on the waters because there were no more boats and he would not be limited by the natural. When the treasurer was not available and he needed to pay tax, he simply ordered it from a fish (Matthew 17:24-27).

In Daniel 2, Nebuchadnezzar forgot his dream and needed someone to tell the dream and interpret it for him. It was an impossible task. Hear the astrologers’ response “Nobody anywhere can do what you ask. And no king, great or small, has ever demanded anything like this from any magician, enchanter, or fortuneteller. What you're asking is impossible unless some god or goddess should reveal it--and they don't hang around with people like us.Dan 2:10-11 (Msg). Yet it was in this impossible scenario that Daniel and his friends found themselves. But their knowledge and confidence in God did not waiver, they went to God and got a download of the dream. If men of the old covenant can be that confident of the miracle working God how much more should we be who are of a new and better covenant having the spirit of the living God in us. We undermine ourselves when we only think and act from the natural. To see the miraculous in our lives, we have to desire it. We need have a confident assurance that God will step into our situation regardless of the limitations.

Scriptures reveals that sicknesses and diseases are the afflictions/oppressions of the devil and Christ was revealed to destroy the works of satan (1 John 3:8). Also in Acts 10:38 we learnt about “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.  So it is God’s will to heal diseases and deliver from the oppression of the devil through the hands of believers. It is His will that His children live in perfect health and take healings to the sick. Philip was anointed to serve tables in Acts 6:5-6, yet in Acts 8:6-7 miracles and healings were wrought through his hands. Stephen, one of those administering tables was also recorded to have done great wonders and miracles Acts 6:8.

Does the above contradict 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 which talks about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how it is given to some as the Spirit wills? No, it doesn’t. While every believer can and should heal the sick and perform other miracles, God specially gifts some to be able to do it on a large scale. While Stephen and Philip could perform the miraculous as believers (Mark 16:20), Paul was gifted with the working of miracles and healings (2 Cor12:12) so much so that aprons from his body healed the sick (Act 19:12).

Signs, wonder and divers miracles are evidences of the Living Jesus as scripture says in Hebrews 2:4God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to His own will?” Therefore, because you serve the Lord Christ, things will turn around for good for you; you are rising up from the sick bed; decisions will be reversed for your sake. Expect a miracle TODAY.

Pls join us for the concluding part next week…

If you have not made Jesus Christ your Lord and saviour, then life here is anchorless and eternity is bleak. We urge you, don’t wait another moment. Make up your mind and say this prayer:

“Dear God, I ask you to forgive me all my sins and make me anew. I believe that Jesus died for me and you raised him up on the third day, I confess that He is Lord now and forever. I accept your son, Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour.”

Congratulations! Now that you are born again, look for a bible believing church to attend that you might know what he has provided for you.
